Lichfield & Tamworth - Good Friday 2019

On a hot sunny day in April, Loughborough Camra's Good Friday trip was to Lichfield and Tamworth.

Members met at Loughborough railway station and purchased the £17.50 ticket (£11.65 with railcard). The journey involved easy changes at Leicester, Nuneaton and Trent Valley for a connecting train for the short journey to the city station (check that the trains connect).

Lichfield is a lovely small Cathedral city that warrants a tour before sampling the beers and great establishments the city has to offer.

Our first pub was the Brewhouse and Kitchen with 4 of their own brews on offer. They brew their beer on the premises and you can see the small plant as you walk into the pub. The beers were enjoyed whilst sitting on the terrace in the sun.
Not far from the Brewhouse, we visited the Horse and Jockey with 8 beers on offer.
Next stop was off the itinerary, a pub called Pig, a Derby Brewing Company pub which had 6 of their beers and 2 guests.
Next, just a cross the street, there were two establishments to visit.
First was the Whippet, a micropub with 4 ever changing beers then next door to the Beerbohm, a Belgian bar/cafe with 4 real ales where the Titanic White Star was spot on.

On the way back towards the railway station our last pub in Lichfield was the Bitter-Suite, a micropub in a former pub from 30 years ago. 4 ever changing beers were on offer which were brought to your table after ordering at the bar.

On the way home we made a stop in Tamworth for the Tamworth Tap, a Tamworth Brewing company micropub, serving 2 Tamworth beers and 6 guests from around the country. The outdoor seating area backs on to the Castle walls with good views of the castle.
Just across the road was the Market Tavern, a delightful long pub (Joules) serving 6 real ales (4 Joules and a guest beer) all in fine form. There were more places to visit but we only had time for two pubs before the journey back home after a great early Summer's day and still only April. We will hopefully be back for another visit soon.
